Dear reader,
This is what I learn from lots of camping and gadget making,IF THIS IS YOUR ONLY THINGS(DUCT TAPE),USE THEM TO SEAL YOUR WOUND,MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN YOUR WOUND FIRST.IT STOPS BLEEDING IMMEDIATELY BUT THERE IS A PRICE TO PAY-YOU NEED TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR WOUND AND MAKE SURE THERE IS NO INFECTION.
My advice:use it if you had a deep cut or wide open wound. It is disgusting but it works. That is what I use when i had a cut from bamboo.

Hi G'day,
Many seasoned cyclists will tell you the most common problem cycling in Penang is puncture. Imagine you have a puncture in "titi kerawang" and your riding buddies are all ahead of you. If you can't change the inner tube, you have to call someone to drive all the way to rescue you and that will be very frustrating for both of you. I used to have 2 punctures within 3km due to my omission to check the tyre before replacing the inner tube.
First Aid sounds good but changing the inner tube is the basic skill all cyclists have to acquire.
Yeah, you are right, mate. We have to learn the basic skills for minor repairs in times of emergency. Tire puncture, broken chain, snapped brake cables, etc. can be frustrating at times but not life threatening.
That's the more reason we have to support such workshops. Imagine the club having set up all these and only a handful attend.

Hmm.... It suddenly struck my mind that we probably should bring first aid kits ( basic stuff ) for long rides especially those long rides to ulu places....in case there are emergencies....in case we have some minor cuts and bruises...there are bound to be some minor mishaps along the way...though hopefully not...
May I suggest if u are going to the pharmacy to get the following for yr first aid kit; sterilised bandages (6 inches wide)(make sure it is in a sterile pack - I think it is Johnson $ Johnson brand), Flavine solution for wound cleaning probably 100 cc pack, Sterilised gauze (they come in small sterilised packages ) is better than cotton as it can be used for dressing as well as cleaning and in dressing it does not sticked on to the wound as in cotton. there now hv opsite dressing that comes in very neat packaage and it is superb for open wound and it water proofed it. A pair of scissors and forceps for cleaning wounds.
Pain killer like panadol or better still Brufen, anti diarrhoes (immodium), anithistamine if u go offroad and get some beesting ( Aerius)
Remember a little while ago you mentioned setting up a bicycle workshop. Maybe we could start off with First Aid lessons for road mishaps. Touch wood, nobody want this to happen but at least we know the right thing to do when it does.
we certainly could organise a workshop. It wud b useful to know some bicycling acute trauma management. Knowledge like how to move an injured person safely away from the traffic without aggravating further injury, wound and acute bleeding ttreatment while watitng for the ambulance to arrive are very useful esp when we are on the road or trail.
Even basic resuscitation knowledge shud be instituted to everyone .
Well let s put a poll, if there is lots of positive response I wud invite my orthopaedic and traumatologist colleague to speak to us on acute bicycling trauma/accident.

Dear Ray,
Now you know why I carry a rucksack or a top-bag on my carrier. Besides the regular tools, spare tubes, pump, patch kit and not forgetting the kitchen sink, I do carry a small assortment of crepe bandage, plasters, blah, blah and whatnots. It may not be what the doctor ordered but I'm sure we will survive some minor mishaps. Hey no plaster not a problem, we improvise with patch kit and cotton wool....hehehe nah only joking. Sorry Doc. I must be getting on your nerves.
See you on Sunday. BTW look368, could we do our little excursion after the Tlk Bahang ride? Must have my regular dosage of Endorphins high....hihihi
Yeah, we can proceed on to balik pulau or Pantai Aceh after the Tlk Bahang ride.
That is one of the reason we arrange for the RELAs ( 4 of them to be exact) to accompany the main convoy. Those who still has lot of energy can proceed on further but for those newbies and those who hv time constraints and wish to go back after tlk bahang, we hv he RELA to escort them back safely to G HOTEL.

Dear Melisa,
I'm feel so sorry when I saw you in the hurry to take your breakfast in the Ferry. I guess that you must be wake-up so early and did not have time for your breakfast. We should put in the event that we will have a stop for roti canai breakfast.
Dear Paul Lee,
Congratulations.. As for a newbie, you just rode more than 100km touring. I hope that you will join us again...
Dear Fellow riders,
For every touring ride, normally we will have a stop for breakfast and a couple of stop for rest. If you are tired please don't hesitate to let wusolow (he's a nice chap) know, so that we can plan to have more frequent stops. As this is a touring ride which mean we will ride slowly (about 16km/h to 23km/h) so that we can view the scenery. We hope that more newbie and regular cyclist will enjoy us...
During this ride, I feel like a tourist than cyclist...hihi.
I will definately go to tanjung dawai again because I forgot to buy keropok, belacan tumbuk, ikan bilis...aiya the tour leader (wusolow) forgot to mention that tanjung dawai is like little lumut..
Tonight I'm going to deep fry my Ikan Perkersam (recommended by wusolow) which I bought during the ride.... yummy.. yummy..

Hi wusolow/Ray,
This trip is full of joy and i truely enjoy the moment. I will definately participate for the future ride. Thanks for the mentorship and make many pit stops along the journey for the 'cacat' newbie :-) Btw, i just bought a padded pant yesterday, hehe.... my butt is really suffering during & after the long ride. I will be on biz trip whole next week but i free this coming Sat or Sunday or the week after next, i love to join Seng Chiang if it is alternate day.
Hi Melissa,
Nice knowing you. Your stamina is awesome, i salute you. Your are right on the roti canai, it is not good enough 100km journey. Next round let's order roti canai+teluk+satin+pising plus kopi-kau :-)
Submitted by melissa on Tue, 08/12/2009 - 10:47am.
Hi PohLee,
Your stamina is good too considering it's your first long ride as a novice. Definitely need a padded pants or your butt will suffer...It's no joke for butt pain cos it can affect your nerves .... Next maybe wanna change the saddle too to gel seat....hehehe....Oh, how's your bike's rear deraileur problem ? Hope you get them fixed soon so that you have a more enjoyable long ride in future. Hmmm.... maybe time for a bike upgrade since you are now hooked on cycling ??!
I really tip my hat for you. You rode round the island on Saturday followed by Lembah Bujang trip the following day. You must have 'urat dawai, tulang besi' man... and now you want to do it again. That awesome!

Dear Fudge,
Could you still remember the carrier you installed for Wusolow? The carrier is so handy.. it can put so many things there... we put the ikan perasam & Mineral water etc in the carrier. May be next time we buy the ikan masin, we can tumpang wusolow carrier...hihi... if anybody legs feel tired, he/she can sit on the Carrier....hahaha..(just joking wusolow)
It's ok. Had a long day the day before the ride. So was kinda hard to pull myself up on the day of the ride. What more it rained that morning in Sg. Ara area....recipe for a good sleep-in ! Anyway, the sausage McMuffin certainly taste better on ferry ! Nah, roti canai won't be sufficient considering that we covered 100km+ for the trip...hehehe.... was about to ask you/ wusolow how the ikan pekasam taste like...gotta check market price for those ikan bilis and heh bi so that next trip can buy!
Well to me it taste like any other salt fish except for the rather strong smell. Ask my malay friend and she told me to fry it in oil. When it's done take it out of pan then fry some Bombay onion ring with some cili padi in the same oil. Return the fried fish into the pan for a short while, after that serve with half a slice of lime (limau kasturi).
Well if you can ride to Lembah Bujang and back, looks like Sg Sedim is a piece of cake. Hope to see you at our future rides.

Hi Wusolow,
This ride looks including several fun in a single ride . Riding ferry, Visit historical sport, and See a nice spot of water which may reminds us of our school days excursion! Right ?
Smiling of everyone can give us a nice feeling as well.
I look foward to joining a next ride to the same sport !
I think you would have enjoyed it very much if you had come along. But never mind Ray has announce his intention to return to Tg Dawai. Hopefully nightrider will be able to join us this time.
Wow! You guys and gal must have had an enjoyable ride. A salute to your ride leader,Mr Wusolow.I wanted to join but could not due to job commitment. BTW I am the one who spoke to you at Pantai Merdeka before your group left for Penang. Hope to see you all at the G Club Tlk Bahang Ride.

Dear Wayne,
Sorry for only short introduction (myself & Melissa) at the pantai merdeka because it's quite late already and our tour leader(Wusolow) is ready to take off. On the way back, we only have one stop because it's quite late. We told wusolow that somebody is looking for him at the pantai merdeka, he thought that we are pulling his legs.
When we almost reach butterworth ferry terminal, a heavy rain poured from the sky...luckily we found a nearby shade. I reached home about 7:30pm and I guess wusolow reached home about 8:00pm...
Hope to see you in teluk bahang ride, Ray

Agree Melissa, comes in handy with first aid kit.
I carried a small kit with me when I was cycling in China. Consisting of band aid, panadol, betadine (yellow solution) and tiger balm.
Dear Melisa/Daniel,
I think we need to get a small first aid kit for the next touring ride. I will get it from the Pharmacy...
