In every G Club organized rides, safety is our 1st priority. (this is the reason why G Club engaged RELAs to assist us) However, during last Sunday's Bahang Ride, we notice some riders still "refuse" to wear a helmet.
During November's ride, i did personally ask some rider who did not wear a helmet and i notice they turn up this time with proper head gear. I did the same this time around and the reason given : I forgot to bring !!!
For all rider's information, if you want to join our ride, you have to wear a helmet. if not, we do not encourage you to ride with us.
NO HELMET NO RIDE.
It's for your own safety and i hope we do not have to ask those who "refuse" to wear helmet to stop riding in our convoy. That would not be something very nice.
Happy riding and ride safe.
Cheers

Captain:
I have some suggestions:
1. Bring spare, used and old helmets. When see those who "forgot" to bring their helmets, lend them the used helmets. If they refuse to wear, then politely ask them not to take part. By doing so, G-Club will still hold to their No Helmet No Ride policy and at the same time show the seriousness of G-Club to enforce such policy.
2. This may seen to be unwelcoming and may be seem as G-Club is pushing the riders away. During the pre-ride briefing, stress that G-Club enforces No Helmet No Ride policy. Ask those who "forgot" to bring helmet to return, borrow spare helmets from their friends, or borrow the spared helmets from G-Club. Prohibit those who do not have helmet on their head to continue.
I know by posting this I will become someone who will not be welcome to some. But for someone who survived a crash that nearly took his life(thanks to the Cinelli hairnet I was wearing 22 years ago), I think I have the obligation to tell those how important is the brain bucket. IT REALLY SAVE LIVES!

Dear Turbo,
It really annoys me seeing people not wearing a helmet and riding with us. don't they feel "funny" when everyone else are wearing 1....??
Anyway, it is almost impossible to bring spare during our ride as most of us will be riding there unless pre arrangement made in advance.
But ultimately, riders themselves gotta realise it's for their own good. We will enfore the "NO HELMET NO RIDE" rule from our next ride. Unpopular but no choice.
I was told sometime back that "popular decisions are bad decisions"....

If any of you are staying around Sg. Ara, you would notice many riders going up to Farmers Trail. Just this morning I saw a cyclist cycling up the road heading there...with his helmet dangling on the handlebar !! I say, what is the point ? Does he think that helmet wearing are only applicable during offroad riding ? What's more every evening when I drive home on that same slope, I would see the "Flying Bangladeshis" ( cleaners at Regency Heights ) flying down the hill at top speed in the old Ah Pek bikes... wonder if the brakes work....
I think Malaysians generally lack safety awareness...until something serious happens to them / their loved ones. You can see this in everyday life....young children not buckled down to child seats ( Just stand outside the nurseries and count how many actually arrived with their kids safely buckled to child seats ? ) or not wearing safety helmets when riding pillons on motorbikes....it all boils down to the parents' attitude towards safety... I'm alway deeply disturbed when I see people riding motorikes holding young babies in in 1 arm and the other holding the handlebar, I'm sorry to say that majorirty of these are grandfathers/ father ( I don't mean to be gender biased...but it's true ) ...babies' skull are still very soft... you can just imagine the grief if something were to happen.
Perhaps the best place to start is by starting a "Ride with Helmet" campaign at schools... there are so many schoolchildren riding without a helmet....
After the Tlk Bahang ride, Raymond and gang grp carried on for round island, turbosnail and few of us proceed to Pulau Betong via Pondok Upeh and then ride up to Biro Tata Negara before heading home.
total distance covered 95.11 km, calorie burn 5090 c, we have lots of rest and regrouping in bwetween. Good but tiring ride and it was veery hot

I think I remember to day's ride from the heat! It was extremely hot. Even after I got back home and went out again to fetch my kids, the weather was still hot. Too bad the temperature was not recorded.

Uploaded my pictures. Reached Pulau Tikus at around 2.15pm. We had a lot of stops, or the riding time would be shortened. My friend, Richard Lee took this opportunity to try his newly bought Giant TCR Alliance out, his second road rike after 20 years!
The weather was hot at the time. Expected since we were riding under the noon sun!
A side note: During our stop over at Teluk Bahang coffee shop. A bike of my friend, a Specialized Allez Pro was knocked and fell just becase someone parked his bike by leaning on his and did not park it properly. I hope nothing happened to his bike. Do take note that when we park our bike by leaning on others please park it properly. I always ask first if it is ok to lean mine to others. My heart ached when I saw it happened. I am sure if it happens to yours, you would too!
My son accidental misplaced a pair of six six one gloves along the rail at the Teluk Bahang Dam during our picture taking. If anyone have got them, please let me know 016-4120042 (Teh). Thanks in advance!!!

anyway, as mentioned over the phone, sifu picked up the gloves and they are with me now.
I notice a typo error beside the group photograph in front of G Hotel which should read "Gclub 8th 2nd Sunday ride instead of 14th"

Corrected, thanks Wusolow (Was 8th before , must have been accidently changed when adding the latest picture)

Dear Turbosnail,
Your kind suggestion would be a good enough " wake up call " for those who want to join
G-club riding without helmet, and I assume if we can put this information on g-club website
regularly, one day we may not find any rider without Helmet in G-club . This is our target.
I am quite sure that your experience in the past, 22 years ago, would be a very valuable realy
story so that when the rider without helmet read this message from you, they will be a
good helmet rider in the near future. " There is nothing more valuable than life !
Thank you for your kind suggestion.

After one week of having to take a rest at home, it was a first day for me to go a long riding.
I was not sure if I could make it, but with good number of riding friends and with their kind care,
I could complete a good ride in spite of such a very hot day. The more I go, the more I could get
a confident for a long riding which are always counted about in between 80 - 90km.
So many nices photoes were take yesterday, and these will surely be a good momories.
Many thanks to those riders, staff members who kindly volunteered to let so many riders to enjoy
the day to remember the joyful ride. All of us must be very keen to see it.
by looking for their riding, talking and taking a rest photoes.

Great photos! Good to see some of RELA. How come photos no.58 onwards are dated 06 Dec?
My mistake. Should be 13th, not 6th.
Thanks.
