Hi Kapitan and gang,
For those doing the Gertak Sanggul trail tomorrow can you please plot the trail and update the trail under the tab trail for futrue reference for those who havent been and wanted to go. Take some photos as well as it may help to judge how difficult it is. Currently the trails icon and all the links are only availabe to members. Once it is complete and presentable, daniel will open it up to any cyclists who wants to refer to it
I want to join too but I going to travel from Butterworth. Should the ride start on 0730Hr or later???
dear hcyongs, we will start the ride at 7.30am. max allowable delay probably 10 minutes.
captain
Just want to ask,is anyone going on this trip???? cause this newbie cannot cycle round island lah.I am going to try to tackle this with a hardtail bike,is it possible??? very very interested but home can go lah.Last sat or sun, when I was waiting bus at Queensbay mall,I saw a rider with helmet and it looks like one of the G club member. But unfortunately I dont know who is him??hehe,GONG XI.
dear Turbo,
I heard that you were staying in Green Lane, see whether we can meet each other or CNY eve night and get to know more about you.thanks
anyway guys,
Enjoy the journey,enjoy the life.
seng chiang.
Hi Seng Chiang. I am a newbie to the Gertak Sanggul trail and will go up with my yellow Proton T-Bolt. Yes, it has dual suspensions and I just hope that the rear suspension will not fail me. I am bad at hill climbs. You should have an advantage over me coz you are using a hardtail to go up. I will be there for the experience. I hope I don't fall back too far behind. Usually hartails do not have trouble going up hills. You saw the rider at QBM while waiting for bus? What kind of bike is he riding and what color? Hey, it could be me coz I always use the route for my trainings. See you on Saturday.
Peter
Hi Pete, good to know you're okay now. Never tried trail riding. If I see a hill I just push my bike up, then push my bike down. Haha! I've gone up that banana plantation from the P Betong side. Yes, do watch out for the sharp u-bends especially going downhill. But I heard that El Kapitan won't be taking you guys that far and will turn back at the peak.
I am also hopeless at hill climbs, especially those long straight stretches. But the strange thing is, we always can complete it, though we will have to huff and puff like mad. Now if there was a lovely rider in front of us........................ mmmmmmmmmmmm?
seng chiang.
most of us are riding hard tail, so that shud answer yr question.
to go a step further, as explained to a man during the GClub workshop in front of other Sifus, it's actually the leg that makes the difference, not the bike. when u see my bike, you will know it's heavy by just looking at it. covered with precious metal !!!
2. turbo is not staying in green lane, he used to zoom past green lane on his road bike but recently he "pai khar"... can only ride at home on his trainer. next time when u already known him in person, you can spot him miles away !!! he is the only fella who carries a "tiger" when riding !!!
hope above clears.
cheers
Anyone driving to there?? If yes,can i become a hitch hiker aka tumpang to there,(waiting for visa to settle) only can confirmed.
Herr Kapitan! Gertak Sanggul roundabout? Where worr? This will be my 1st time going there and I hope it'll be fun. Must be quite challenging. Anyone plse let me know how to get there? Thanks very much.
Dear Posh66,
Just becareful when you going down through banana plantation...
Cheers, Ray
Hey Ray, thanks for the tips. Sure is good to hear from you who is more experience in riding Gtk Sanggul trail. I shall keep the banana plantation in mind, going down and coming up. I don't mind pushing the bike up but I will give it a shot to ride up the slope. As for coming down, I shall follow Daniel. I'll remember to tell him about the 180 degree U-turn at the plantation and watch out for me. You are a pal, Ray. Thanks a lot. Gong Xi Fa Cai to you and your family!
Peter
Hi Pete and Daniel,
I'll be riding with Ray and Susumu-san this Sat, meeting them at Titi Kerawang and cycling with them down Teluk Kumbar. Wife just told me last night that she can't join us as she's volunteered to do some cooking for my aunty so this morning I thought I might as well cycle with Ray and Susumu-san all the way back to Island Plaza. Now if those two are not in a hurry I will ask them whether they would mind riding up to the Gertak Sanggul roundabout to wait for you guys coming down from the off road ride. Then we can all cycle back together to Bukit Jambul/Green Lane.
Hope to see you all on Saturday then.
Tony
Dear Lazy,
That's a good idea. We will meet another new cyclist at balik pulau about 0830. May be we will chit chat for a while before continue our offroad trail...hihi... If we know what time, they are coming back from gertak sanggul, we can go there to meet them but no beautiful girls with champagne...hahaha
Come lar, we cycle to island plaza. After I will send you and your "BE HAPPY" "(MTB)Mana Tak Boleh" back to Balik Pulau. If you don't mind of my little Kelisa kia....hahah
Hope to see you all, Ray
Hi Stingray,
Okay then, we are agreed. Kapitan said that his group should come down by 10.30 am. So we time ourselves to reach the end of Gertak Sanggul by 10.15 am.
There's a cyclist we are supposed to meet in Balik Pulau? Why didn't you ask him to contact me? Or is he a SHE? Hahaha!
Btw, who is FAB01 who has signed up for the ride?
Yes, I will cycle with you and Susumu-san (him to his York Apt) back to Island Plaza. Don't worry, my wife can pick me up. She'll be around the Pulau Tikus area. Very lazy to cycle back. Hence my nickname Lazy Rider. Haha! One day must do the complete round island in one shot.
Cheers and see you this Saturday.
Tony
Lazy,
fab01 is Fabian working in China but back here for CNY holiday. You want to see what he looks like, check out the photos that he posted while riding in the snow !!
a clearer picture of him in GClub Workshop where there is the Ang Moh standing beside Sifu.
Cheers
Dear Peter,
Do you know where is the place? i will be riding to Gertak Sanggul on the event. call me if you don't know how to get there. my number is 012-4235723 :)
Posh66, i hope u are pretty clear now as to where the meeting place is.
in the event you still cannot find the place, pls call me. (look nicely n you will be able to find my numbers)
and if you still fail to find the place, then u better turn back home and help mop the floor and get ready for CNY !!! ha ha ha.... we shall arrange another ride there again.
hope to see you.
Herr Kapitan! I am very clear where to meet now. The satellite map shows a very clear dead end of Gertak Sanggul. That's where you guys will meet right? Tell Seng Chiang I will also be on full suspension bike to go up. At least he has a partner to go along with. Hope my rear suspension will not let me down as what happened three Saturdays ago. I shall not go home and mop floor but I shall complete the journey happily.
Peter
I think the map is better than describe it in words. Please refer to the link for details:
