Hi everyone. I need your ideas and suggestions. I'm thinking of creating a bicycle club in my school (SMJK CHUNG LING) because there is no such club in my school. I hope G-Club can be a sponsor for the club. I will conduct a survey at my school before creating this club. I will try my best to attract as many students to join hoping that they will support the club and also with G Club's support. It may take some time to form this club because I need the headmaster's permission to form the club and a teacher to head the club
. Anyone from chung ling high school or anyone's son from chung ling ?

Gd the way boy....i'm also ex-student of CL...
Jwbiker, your idea of setting up a club in your school is highly commendable !
Setting up a club and keeping it running is a different story. I don't know about sponsoring but I believe G Club would be able to extend a hand in ways within it's means. Off hand assistance that I can think of would be to leverage on G Club's website and contacts. I suggest if you are still keen to start a club, pursue this further with G Club's committee (email: gclub@gclub.com.my).
Hi jwbiker. Remember what I shared with you during our ride to Ngor Hean via Ayer Itam dam? Get all students who have bicycles and conduct a survey with them. From there you will know the statistics how many are interested or not. Just remember that it dos not matter the cost of bicycle each one has. One may have a cheap bike as their parents could only afford that much and the other has rich parents who can afford a more expensive bike. As long as each one has a bike, you are set to form a group of pioneer students for a cycling club. Start off with a small group of about 5. It's easier to control. By and by, the group will eventually grow in months to come. Take them for short rides over flat roads to gain their confidence. Then slowly bring them to light gradient rides. Main intention to form the club in your school is to promote cycling for a cleaner environment and safety first.
I hope my two cents will help you get started.

I agree with you. A well maintained RM500 LeRun rigid MTB will definitely ride better than an ill kept godzillion ringgit super duper high tech off road racer from a land of opportunity. I have seen tons of good bike that dies prematurely just because their owners do not take a good care of them and lots of so-called cheap bikes that ride like a dream.
Of course, a skill speak a volume too. If you do not know how to handle your bike, even give the best full suspension bike in world to a novice, he/she will still need to come down and push the bike when facing the trail that is beyond their capabilities.
you can talk to yr school about setting up cycling club. school in return has to apply to education dept what not to set up the club.
G Club cannot just walk in to yr school n tell them we wanted to set up a cycling club. After all, we are just a social club and it is not as simple as you think.
besides, after the dragon boat tragedy earlier this year, i am sure all schools will be more careful in allowing students to join activities outside the school.
however, G Club will be more than happy to assist your school's cycling club by providing free clinics for bike maintenance, emergency repairs, safety aspect while cycling if the need arise.
hope the above clears.
If I recall, Chung Ling High School used to have one in the eighties last century and was the first in Penang to have such club.
Somehow it ceased to exist after a while. Probably due to budget constraint.
Please bear in mind that this requires bigger investment in equipments than other sports. You may need to get some sponsorship in order to get it running.
